Lift Every Voice Chicago, Journal of the African American Cultural Center at Reformation Lutheran Church, hosts BLACKSONIAN SUNDAY: 1st Birthday Salute to the new National Museum on African American History & Culture, September 24th, 2017, 2 PM
1. Lift Every Voice Chicago, Journal of the African American Cultural Center at Chicagoland's Reformation Lutheran Church, will host BLACKSONIAN SUNDAY, 1st Anniversary Salute to the Smithsonian Institute's new National Museum on African American History & Culture (NMAAHC), September 24th, 2017, 2 PM at the Church's Young Obama Fellowship Hall, 11310 S. Forest Avenue, in the historic Roseland/Pullman Neighborhoods on the City's Far South Side.
2. "We are pleased to accept NMAAHC's invitation to serve as one of the myriad local sites around the country, and internationally, stepping forward to join them in celebrating their first anniversary" says Rev. Joel Washington (Khunanpu Sangoma), Pastor of Reformation Church Chicago ("Young Barack Obama's community organizing sanctuary").
3. "We also hope to use the occasion of our local celebration as an opportunity to screen distinguished filmmaker, Ava Duvernay's AUGUST 28: A Day in the Life of a People, a documentary short commissioned by NMAAHC, via the national museum's streaming capacity-if that is doable" adds Pastor Washington.
4. Reformation's celebration will definitely feature, A Love Supreme: the Sacred Jazz/Art Ministry of the local Black Lutheran Church, featuring George Nutall on keyboard, Tony Dozier on bass guitar, and Pastor Washington, spoken word. A candlelight ceremony dedicated to the long life of the NMAAHC will also be held segueing into a traditional 1st Anniversary cake cutting.
5. More, members of Reformation's African American Cultural Center Ministry will also be present to help boost the vision of the local Church's very own Afrocentric center-along with its strategic aim of building a viable friendship with NMAAHC.
6. "Next year we hope to celebrate the Museum's 2nd Anniversary at its location. We are looking to cooperate with them in leading an educational tour group fundraiser to the NMAAHC site from Metro Chicago going forward" says Pastor Washington
Respectfully submitted: Rev. Joel Washington (Khunanpu Sangoma), Pastor, Reformation Church Chicago ("Young Barack Obama's community organizing sanctuary") and Lead Organizer, Reformation's African American Cultural Center, 9-13-17
